Honeywell Freeze Alarm--Winter Watchman February 10, 2010 Bob B. (New Jersey,USA)
I should have listened to some other reviews about false alarms, but trusted the name Honeywell.I had this set to 40 degrees and was notified by a neighbor that the light went on.After going to the home where the alarm was, I found that my whole home(2 zone heat) was 52 degrees, just like I set the thermostats. I can no longer trust this product(a recent purchase) and would not recommend it.
Unreliable - A waste of money February 4, 2010 Lotus-Seven 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Executive summary: UNRELIABLE. More trouble than it's worth! Fire the Watchman for being drunk and asleep on the job! I purchased a Honeywell Winter Watchman to monitor the house while away in case of furnace failure. the house temperature was regulated at 62 Deg. F. and the Winter Watchman was set to 10 deg. F lower. After a week it triggered the lamp even though the house was still at 62 deg. When checked, the dial calibration which was initially correct was off by 6 to 8 degrees. I purchased another unit and this one initially turned the lamp on at a dial setting of 62 deg. as expected. I set the dial to an indicated 50 deg. I tested it again after one hour and it then tripped the light on at a dial setting of about 50 or 51 degrees, even though the room was measuring 61 degrees on a accurate thermometer at the time. These devices seem to have two inherent problems: 1. They don't hold calibration and can randomly change by 11 degrees, or so, without any warning. 2. The test button on the side is very sensitive to the slightest touch and is actually sensitive to vibration and orientation of the unit. Both of the units I have behave the same. Obviously, this device is poorly designed and unreliable. Exactly the opposite of what one would want in an alarm. It's sad that a company like Honeywell which has high name recognition as a supplier of quality products did not test these pieces of junk before putting their name on the product. Both of the units I purchased were marked "Made in Mexico" and had the same "run" number stamped on the back. I've noticed that Menards, who used to sell these, now has discontinued them and won't let them in it's stores. Honeywell, it's time for a goodwill recall to compensate your customers for the time they've wasted fooling with this junk. P.S. I have a Honeywell Model 3000 digital programmable thermostat that is flawless and has been totally reliable for the last 10 years.
The perfect watch January 26, 2010 Thomas F. Goettl (Owosso, Mi. USA) We used this unit in my moms house afer she passed away. Moms neighbor told me about it so he could watch if power when out an a lite would come on when the heat dropped below 40 deg and he could call me. The perfect guard.
Don't Buy January 8, 2010 D. Haugen (NE Iowa) Installed by our Plumbing and Heating Specialist. It did not work right out of the box. Set the Watchman at 45 degrees and it came on when the acutal temperature was above 50 degrees. Reset it for 40 degrees, and it still gave a false alarm. It has been returned. We will try a wireless therometer next (supposedly good for over 300 feet).

Not even cold yet and this item has malfunctioned twice....set 10 degrees lower than the thermostat, it's set off the warning light twice to have the neighbors checking it out........NOT a good purchase, but a good idea. Something better than this is needed, don't waste your $.
