Product Description
Programmable thermostat automates baseboard heaters.Replace any line voltage thermostat with this programmable thermostat, and you'll be able to schedule up to four different settings each day of the week. Designed specifically for homes with electric baseboard heaters, convectors, or radiant floor heating, the easy-to-use 4000-Watt Baseboard Thermostat programs in just a few minutes and keeps your home looking and feeling great. With two different temperature settings per day, you can alternate between comfort, when you're up and about, and economy, when you're sleeping or away from the house. You can also set a separate vacation temperature for when you'll be away from home for an extended period of time. Feeling a little chilled? Manual control is easy for times when you just need a little more heat or cooling. The 4000-Watt Baseboard Thermostat's large LCD screen provides an easy-to-read display of time, temperature, and current settings.

5 out of 5 stars Best Single Pole Thermostat I've Found   February 27, 2010
B. MCCONNEL
I'm impressed with the quality and the functionality of this Single Pole Thermostat. I purchased one to make sure that I wanted to replace all the thermostats in my condo with this thermostat. I have since purchased two more for other rooms in my condo.

Pros:
+ Easy Installation
+ Single Pole
+ 16.7 Amp Rating
+ No Batteries Required
+ Retains Programming throughout power lost (Time retained up to 4 hours)
+ Programmable and Manual Modes
+ Three Temperature Settings (Comfort, Economy, and Vacation)
+ Accurate Thermometer Display
+ Silent Switching (No Click!)
+ Looks sleek and modern
+ Key Pad Lock
+ Quick Cycling of Baseboard heaters helps prevent large temperature swings.

Cons:
- No Back-light
- Long Cycle mode should be longer (Frequent on and off for forced air units can be slightly irritating at first.)
- Limitations to Programing (4 Periods limited to two temperature settings 1&3 Comfort, 2&4 Economy)
- 2 Amp Minimum Load Limitation

Overall: This is the best single pole programmable thermostat available on the market. I would recommend to anyone that needs a thermostat for a single pole application. Great work Aude and Honeywell for making a great product! Five Stars!

4 out of 5 stars Almost perfect.   February 2, 2010

First thing I want to say is that the design of this is very nice and sleek with no buttons exposed, until you open the hinged panel. The display is big and shows all the information in an easy to read way. I especially like the power level indicator which shows how much power it is giving to the heaters. Installation was easy, and programming was straight-forward also.

I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't for the way the temperatures are set. You only have a 'occupied temp' and a 'unoccupied temp' that you can set. All of the programs will use these two temperatures, and ONLY these two temperatures... So for example, if you have the temps set at 72 & 62. (When you are home, it will be at 72, and when you are gone, 62.) You can not have one day a higher temperature than the other. This may not be a problem for other people, but I would have liked to keep the weekend temp a little bit warmer because I tend to be there more often. Also, programmed times go in 15 minute increments.

A side note to everyone with electric baseboard heat... This thermostat will cycle the heaters on and off quite rapidly (this is how it sends different power levels to them) and they can make a lot of noise. To remedy this, take off the front panel of the heater and spray WD-40 on the 3-5 points where the heating element sits on the rail. The noise is caused because its metal on metal contact and it expands when heating up. The slight movement of the metals against each other causes the noises. The WD-40 will mostly evaporate away from the heat, but it will leave a film on there and make them silent. I now enjoy sleeping with out having to hear all of the creeking and cracking mine used to make.

5 out of 5 stars Works very well!   January 25, 2010

I bought this thermostat for my den, which has electric baseboard heat. The original thermostat looked like it was 30 years old; instead of a dial with temperatures, it had one ranging from 0 to 4. Getting the room to a comfortable temperature was impossible.
This thermostat is simple to use and is VERY good at keeping the temperature steady. It is also silent. Programming it is pretty straightforward. I should mention that you cannot set completely distinct temperatures for each time of day. You basically enter a warn daytime temp and a cooler night temp. When programming, you decide which of the two temps to use during each period of the day. This limitation actually makes it simpler to program and works well for me.
The only feature that is missed is a back-light.

Pros:
Holds temperature steady
Silent operation
7-day programmable (vs 5-2)

Cons:
No Back-light

5 out of 5 stars Excellent programmable thermostat   January 5, 2010
R. Pietrone (Seattle, Wa USA)
Excellent programmable thermostat overall with a very nice finish.

As stated in previous reviews this has a "variable" heat level control that in a sense only uses part of the heating capabilities of the baseboard as needed. This is a huge benefit as it prevents baseboard heaters from creaking as they expand from constant on/off from the old knob heater controls. It is also nice to know how hard your heating system is working to keep your house warm.

The other nice thing we have noticed is that the thermostat shows very accurate measurement of how warm the room is. I have compared it against several other digital thermal sensors and this is spot on.

5 out of 5 stars Nothing Like It   November 16, 2009
Stevon Roberts (Corvallis, OR USA)
This is a fantastic thermostat, and at time of purchase it was the only one with a high enough wattage rating for our application. It's been installed for over a year and has survived one cold winter and a cold fall so far, keeping the temperature in our living/dining/kitchen area very stable. The thermostat is driving 2 in-wall Cadet fan-forced heaters that warm about 500 square feet. We like how the thermostat scales the electricity to the temperature, so if it's very cold, it will send more power to the heaters. You can even hear a slight difference in the fan speeds when they're running full power. The unit itself gets quite warm during operation, particularly if the heaters are working hard--according to the manual this is normal.

The advertised timing cycle is somewhat misleading--it doesn't turn the heaters on every 15 minutes, rather they come on about every 3-4 minutes in cold weather, and the running frequency is apparently recalculated every 15 minutes based on how quickly the room is heating. This sounds annoying--it was at first, and it took us about 2 weeks to get used to the fans coming on more frequently. But, once the house temperature stabilizes, the heaters will only stay on for 30-60 seconds or so (per cycle), and we really like that because you don't get these huge spikes and drops in temperature. The thermostat itself doesn't click at all. It's completely silent--so if you had baseboard heaters, the cycling would likely go unnoticed, unless your lights dim.

The programming features are nice, too. You can set it to warm up the house just before you get out of bed--fantastic if you have trouble waking up in cold weather--and you can set it to dial back at bedtime, or when you're away for work. There are only 2 temperature settings (sun and moon) but a total of 4 time periods per day, and these can be different every day of the week, so there's lots of programming flexibility. There's a vacation mode, too, which we've used occasionally.

In theory, it can save power. In practice, we scale back at night (64 to protect the pipes if it freezes) but we also really like waking up to a warm house in the morning, and heating the house fully at this hour is not efficient. We haven't noticed a significant change to our power bill.

Pros: Works well, very easy to install (shut off the breaker first!), flexible programming, keeps program and time through short power outages, warm house in the morning!

Cons: Somewhat expensive, cycles heaters frequently (which you'll eventually get used to), no backlit display, & hasn't significantly influenced our power bill.

Other Thoughts: Hidden dip switches under the panel require adjusting for fan forced heaters (thanks to Allan for mentioning that it could be dangerous if this is not set correctly), and another switch for 12 hour time format--save yourself some time and check these before you screw it into the wall :)

Bottom line: If you're considering a line-voltage thermostat, this is the one to get.
