Thanks to a large lighted multi-color display and patented Lux Speed Dial, the CAG1500 is incredibly easy to use. | Clean Cycle Technology Improves Air Quality The CAG1500 is unique among programmable thermostats in that it offers patented Clean Cycle technology, a feature that allows you to program your home's fan to circulate air through the HVAC system's filter, reducing airborne particles such as pollen, dust, pet dander, and other allergens. You can program the fan to run anywhere between 9 and 60 minutes each hour. Not only does this improve the quality of air throughout your home, but it also increases your energy savings and comfort. First, the fan only runs and uses energy when you program it to do so, preventing wasted energy and unnecessary use. Second, the fan is programmed to operate independently, using much less energy than it would take to circulate a home's air by running the entire HVAC system. Seven-Day Programming with Four Periods per Day One of the easiest ways to reduce utility costs is to program your thermostat to fit your schedule. The CAG1500 lets you create a different program for every day of the week, and you can enter four different time periods and temperature settings in a 24-hour period (Morning, Day, Evening, and Night). User-Friendly Programming, Filter Monitor, and Key Lock Thanks to a large lighted multi-color display and the patented Lux Speed Dial the CAG1500 is incredibly easy to use. For further convenience, a graphic filter monitor indicates when the filter needs to be replaced or cleaned. The CAG1500 also offers a keypad lock to prevent unauthorized changes to the thermostat settings. Save Money and the Environment Like all programmable thermostats, the CAG1500 helps reduce energy consumption, but this efficient device takes savings a step further. To maximize your home's energy efficiency, the CAG1500 comes preprogrammed with a default heating and cooling schedule that's designed to save up to $500 in energy costs over a year, and it can also help cut down on your carbon footprint. Because the CAG1500 is 100% mercury free, you can be sure it's a safe and environmentally conscious choice for your home. Compatible with Most Heating and Air Conditioning Systems The CAG1500 is compatible with most heating and air conditioning systems, including one-stage heat and one-stage cool systems (gas, oil, or electric heating, and single-stage heat pumps), two-wire heat-only hydronic systems (hot water baseboard and radiator), and millivolt systems (wall heaters and gas fireplaces). Two "AA" alkaline batteries are required for operation (batteries not included). Great for special need August 19, 2010 T. Le I was debating between this and the Honeywell Vision Pro 8000 because we recently installed A/C in our house that build in the 70s with old vent systems. We ended up having issue with the basement being much colder than other areas in the house even when we closed off all the registers in the basement. For awhile I had to set the fan on to keep the air constantly cycling even when the A/C wasn't on, and that helped. However, running the fan all the time can't be good for electric usage and its longevity. This thermostat allows me to have the fan running for a configurable duration in an hour even when the A/C is off. Now I wished there is a setting to keep the fan going for certain duration immediately after the A/C is off, but this is nearly as good. The only downside of the Lux thermostat is the switch relay noise was louder than my previous Honeywell.
Not worth the time or trouble June 16, 2010 Larry (Jupiter, FL) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I read the reviews on this product and was really excited especially because Consumer Reports gave it such a high rating. I installed it, and "poof" nothing. I called customer support, and a recording there said my call would be retuned in three hours, again "poof" nothing. So I took it off the wall, purchased another product at Home Depo, which works, and sent this one back. It's one thing if the product is broken, and customer support can help you determine that, but it is totally another when it is broken, and nobody steps in to help you. Avoid LUX!
Pete's Heat March 30, 2010 P. Marin (Michigan) Our heating bills were very high. Furnace was cycling on and off with old Stat. This new one from LUX is great. Better than expected. Good price. It worked for me.

Great for fixing temperature imbalances January 28, 2010 Chris R. (Austin, TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My home office is on the same HVAC as the master bedroom, and the thermostat is in the master bedroom. The master bedroom is always much colder, due to location/sun and the fact that the office is stuffed with heat-producing computer equipment. A professionally-installed two-thermostat zone-splitting system would have cost me $1300. That would be a great solution: only heat/cool the room that needs it. No need to cool the master bedroom during the day in the summer, and no need to heat the office (much) during the winter. But for $50, this thermostat does a decent job of equalizing the temperature between the two rooms by circulating the air periodically. I've only had it installed for a week, so I don't know how effective it'll be in July and August (when it hits 100 most days -- this is Texas). However, I wish that it were possible to program the "clean" cycle to only operate at certain times. There are 4 clean cycle programming periods for each day (e.g. on Tuesday, from 6am to 9am, run the fan for 15 minutes out of every hour). The clean cycle must be at least 9 minutes (0 isn't an option), so if I don't want the fan to circulate air at night, I've got to remember to flip the fan switch to "auto" at the end of the day and back to "clean" in the morning. Fan switch settings are: on, auto = whenever the AC/heat is operating, clean = auto + programmable number of minutes starting every 20 minutes. Still, it gets 5 stars because it's relatively cheap, easy to install (it took longer to fix the paint border around the old thermostat than to wire up the new one), easy to program, looks good, and has the clean air cycle. And the filter-change reminder is convenient too.
