Thermostats go to church! August 3, 2010 W. Rice (Philadelphia, PA USA) A few years ago, we were looking to save energy (and money!) by replacing the old non-programmable Honeywell round thermostats we had controlling the heating zones at our church. The difficulty is that we have an older 3-wire zone system that is incompatible with just about every electronic thermostat in the world. Except this one. So we bought them out of necessity (we're using 6 of them), but the White-Rodgers 1F97-1277 blue touch-screen thermostat has far exceeded out expectations and proven its worth in many other ways. The 7-day programming lets me adjust for the various activities and schedules of events in the church. The "partial lockout" feature lets the users of particular room adjust the temperature if they're around outside of the scheduled occupancy time, without messing up the schedule or "hold"ing a temperature for too long. You can set high and low temperature setting limits to prevent people from turning the heat up too high or the a/c down too low. Best thermostat I've ever seen. More features than we'll ever need, but we found a few surprising ones that made our lives a whole lot easier. And in the first year, we saw heating savings of about $2000. How's that for return on investment?
Disappointing Product from a reputable manufacturer December 20, 2009 J. Allen (Pittsburgh) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Mine just died and I had to replace it to restore control of my heating system. My blue screen 1F97-1271 is only four years old. Luckily I was home when it failed, because the thermostat failed in the "ON" state, so my furnace would never have shut off until the house burned down. That's a very scary fault mode and I have no intention of trying another one of these thermostats. The cause of the failure may have been the failure of one of the two AA back-up batteries which I found to be dead. The other battery was fine according to my tester. I haven't had a power outage in the past week, so I don't know why the failure of a back-up battery would cause a problem with the thermostat. If you have one of these 1F97 90 Series Blue thermostats, I suggest that, as a minimum, you plan on changing the batteries annually. Perhaps at the same time you do your smoke detectors.
Energy efficient! February 9, 2009 K. Fields (houston, tx United States) I had to replace a thermostat and an older model Emerson. This was simple to do plus it was about [...] bucks cheaper that I found it in other places.
Pretty Good Thermostat January 27, 2009 Matt Fontaine (Louisville, KY USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a pretty good thermostat. I "Upgraded" from a 1F90-371, and got a cool touch-screen and pretty blue color...That's about it. I lost the 'Advance to Next Period' feature, which I used a LOT on my old thermostat. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't have bought this thermostat, but it does have lots of other features you may find useful.
Look great and easy to use. January 27, 2009 Michael Wu First time replacing a thermostat. Compared several units on-line and bought this one mainly on looks. I love the large blue screen. Very easy to use and operate. Very easy to install (though I had to call customer service once because my old unit had an extra jumper. They answered and answered my question quickly). Works great. Only drawback would be the interface of the installer menu. Nothing to help you keep track of what step you are on. Luckily this is a first-time and one-time set up step. So no biggie.
