 Easy to install and program August 19, 2010

The hardest part of this install was removing my 25 year old mercury switch style thermostat. This was super easy to replace the old one with - everything is well explained and putting the wires in the right little slots and tightening down the screws couldn't be easier. The programming was explained well and the only thing that took a while was deciding what temps I wanted at what times. I wish I'd popped for a few more features, but as far as upgrading goes it's been a HUGE upgrade. My electric bills are way better - with a couple of other combined energy saving things I've done, my electric bill has gone DOWN the past two months and is about a $100 less than it was last year at this time. (I live in Northeast FL where we're about to set a record for most days above 90)
Time zones 10am 76 Noon 78 7pm 76 10 pm 74 My body has adjusted to my upping the temps in the house for the most part and if I see that the outside temp will let me, I'll bump it down a degree if it gets to stagnant in the house. (it's about humidity)
I've recouped my investment and then some.

Very easy to use and install. It took about 5 min to install the thermostat and another 5 to program a week's worth of temperatures into it. We don't use our a/c very often so we mainly just use the hold feature in the summer. In the winter though it will be nice to regulate the heat and save some money.

I've had these Lux brand thermostats in the past. I just installed this model. The good news: it seems to be functioning well as other models have done in the past, and it is an inexpensive programmable model. The potentially bad news is that each time, my Lux thermostat has lasted only about 2-3 years. (Is that the usual lifespan of this type of product?) The other bad news is that I didn't find this product easy to install. The directions were clear enough but the tiny screws were impossible for me to replace. I have man-size hands and the tiny screws for the wiring plate are about 3/16 inch long and have to be fit in a little box-shaped compartment about 5/16 inch wide! I dropped the first screw about 30 times before I gave up and attached wires with electrical tape. I'm not fond of jury-rigging products to make them work, particularly not electrical products. I probably won't buy this brand again.

The TX500E Smart Temp Programmable Therostat that I purchased was easy to install. I had never installed a A/C themostat before this. But I can tell you anyone can do it. It took me about 45 minutes. And that includes reading the instructions a couple of times.
Once it was installed it has worked perfectly. I have only had it about 3 weeks so far and no problems !

We are a Plumibng/Heating (TownSide Plumbing) and Bathroom Remodeling Co (ReBath) in VA. Thus we have a little savvy when it comes to thermostats. We replaced our non-programable thermostat in our office space. We did not need a separate Saturday and Sunday program so this worked will for us. Enough so that we have already purchased 2 more Lux models (1500 with separate S/S programs) for our showroom locations. While we can not tell at this point how long these will last, it was easy to program. At first glance it is performing well by maintining our office climate to what we programed. I would recommend this product.
